Lets spread the love!
Valentines Day was traditionally a day when we would send or receive cards to someone we loved, often anonymously. I think that as well as being a special day for lovers it should also be a national spread the love day. That day when we get to tell anyone special in our life that we love them, we appreciate them, we see what they do for us. With those aims in mind I’d like to spread some love and share with you some free ideas of things you could create to show your affection.
heart of petals
This is my particular favourite, the blossom heart. We have some prolific camellias which are flowering during February so I collect a bucket full of the nicer blossoms that have dropped and I choose my display site. Mine is outside the front of the house so that when Tom comes home he’ll be greeted by petals of love. You can make the heart any size you like. Last year I made lots all leading down to the house because I was enjoying myself so much.
If you share access to a device, computer, phone then you could put a heart or flowers on the main screen for when they log on.
You could also send them a whatsapp photo of a beautiful view you’ve shared together or a quick video saying why you appreciate them so much.
Linoprint hare with Valentine Heart
For anyone who you love that loves hares. Hand printed onto wonderfully textured handmade khadi paper with a hand painted heart. This little print would be great framed but just as lovely propped on a shelf and reminding your partner how much you love them! Click on the button below to see my prints.
Handmade valentines card
I love a hand made card and it means a lot to the recipient so always worth the effort. If you’re not feeling very arty but you’d like to make your own valentine card then a try a simple collage heart. Cut or rip small squares of the colours red and pink from pictures in a magazine. Draw a heart onto paper or card and then glue the coloured squares onto it so that they are overlapping, then write some special words of your own or look for inspirational quotes. You can go trad with pinks and reds or go wild and mix it up!
linoprint valentine cards
So if you found you had neither the art ability or the time to make something then I’ve done it for you and you can give one of my original handprinted cards. I make them with love! I design and cut my lino then each is carefully handprinted onto a recycled blank card with lots of room for your special words. Click on the button and it will take you to my cards.
valentine sweet treats
I think most of us love a sweet treat and this is a lovely way to show your partner you’re thinking of them and make them a delicious Date and Cocoa Balls ( you could make them heart shaped and call them Valentine Hearts!) Super simple recipe and no cooking needed.
1 cup of pitted dates
1/4 cup of oats
3 tablespoons of cocoa powder
and optional pinch of salt and/or splash of vanilla extract
Pour boiling water over the dates and leave to soak for 15 minutes, save the soak water.
Add all the ingredients to a food processor along with 3 tablespoons of the soak water and pulse until it forms a thick paste. Use a splash more soak water if needed but don’t make it too wet. Then using a teaspoon, divide into 14 blobs. Then either roll these into a ball or sculpt into hearts (depending on how arty you’re feeling!) Then sprinkle with cocoa powder. Ta daa! They will keep for up to a week in the fridge though mine don’t last that long!
Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope you enjoy sharing some creations with your love x
